The New Braunfels Fly Fishers participated in the annual FUN FISH event hosted by WORD for kids aged 3 to 16. The kids fun fish day was held February 28^th at Canyon Park. There were 400 registered to participate in the event. The event gave the kids an opportunity to fish for rainbow trout that had been stocked in a fenced off cove. There were also two fish ponds for the smaller toddlers that could not walk out on the dock. The kids could take their catch home for Mom to cook.

New Braunfels Fly Fishers gave the kids an opportunity to cast a fly rod with a felt fly (no hooks). There were a lot of smiling faces when they were able to get the fly into the hula hoop. The kids were then given M&Ms and a club logo sticker. We also had a fly exhibit organized based on the species of fish (thanks to Gruene Outfitters for the exhibit) so the kids could see the different flies. NBFF was also tying flies so the kids could see how they are tied.

It was a great day seeing the kids having so much fun.

NBFF February Club Meeting

Reminder that our next club meeting will be this Wednesday the 25th at the West Side Community Center, 2932 S IH Frontage Road, New Braunfels.

Our guest speaker will be Tadd Fore, Ozark Waters Fly Fishers presenting fly fishing on the White River in Arkansas.

Also this coming Saturday the 28th is WORD’s Fun Fish at Canyon Park on Canyon Lake. NBFF will have a booth with volunteers needed to help kids 3-16 experience fly fishing. Let me know if you are interested in helpiing out.

GRTU Youth Camp

GRTU YOUTH CAMP

New Braunfels Fly Fishers donated accessory bags to the participants at this year’s GRTU Youth Camp at Rio Guadalupe. This year there were 27 participants.

The goody bags included all the accessories that are needed to complement the ORVIS fly rods they all received at check in. The bags included:

Leader, Tippet, Oros indicator, Zingers, Nippers, Forceps, Fly box with NBFF’s logo, An assortment of flies, Club stickers

Club Meeting

Folks,

Our next club meeting will be this coming Wednesday, Dec 17th at the West Side Community Center from 5:30 – 8:00. The address is 2932 S IH 35 Frontage Road, New Braunfels.

The format will be a bit different. Rather than a guest speaker and a fly raffle we are having a raffle along with snack foods from HEB to celebrate Xmas.

The raffle tickets will be $5 each or 3 for $10. The prizes available are:

Holdover Tournament Results

HOLDOVER TOURNAMENT RESULTS

RIO GUADALUPE

NOVEMBER 8 2025

The annual Holdover Tournament was a great success. There were 38 participants that caught the following fish:

Trout = 21 Bass = 8 Suckers & Carp = 20 Sunfish = 84

The Ron Skarbowski Memorial Award for the longest trout went to David Carrasco. David caught a 22” rainbow.

The 1^st place winner was John “JC” Cadran. John caught 4 trout, several bass, sunfish, and suckers.

The 2^nd place winner was Richard Kunz.

The 3^rd place winner was Tony Lubrani.

The heaviest fish was a 14.6 lb. carp caught by Robert Carlen.

An 18″ smallmouth was also caught.

We want to give a special thank you to Judd Cole, owner of Rio Anglers Flies and Guides for coordinating the 8 guides who donated their time and expertise to help make this year a success.
