November Fishing Report

To all who’ve recently subscribed to our newsletter: Thank you for joining!

Fall is here! The temperatures have dropped and it’s a great time to get outdoors. It’s also a good time to reserve your dates for fall and winter in Texas. We’ll be targeting bass through November, then trout late November through April. Check out http://actionangler.net/ to book a trip, buy some gear or gift certificate, or get up to speed on the latest river info.

RIVER CONDITIONS

The water temperatures on the Guadalupe are already low 60s to high 50s. Some trout have survived the summer heat in large part to the GRTU volunteers that feed the trout 2 days a week. The GRTU feeding program has kept some of the trout in cooler areas of the river. It’s likely to find several anglers in the few locations trying to land a holdover trout. The flows on the Guadalupe below Canyon Lake are 74 CFS. This is the time to enjoy all the warm water species the Texas Hill Country has to offer. Many great fishing stories of bass biting on poppers and streamers. The Canyon Lake level is 8 feet low and flows could reduce more if rainfall doesn’t increase. It’s very important to keep a watch on the river flows. Wading can become dangerous if you are on the river when the dam suddenly increases its flow. We recommend visiting http://www.grtu.org/flow/ to stay informed of the lake level and dam release. Make sure to book a trip soon to secure your date.

Please contact us if you want to experience some great Colorado or Hill Country fly fishing. Guided trips and gift certificates can be purchased online at http://actionangler.net/ by clicking the “BOOK NOW” button.

NBFF meeting October 26

Minutes of NBFF Membership Meeting

10/26/2022 – New Braunfels Public Library

Dan Cone called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm at the New Braunfels Public Library.

Pat McQuinn emailed that we had 36 current members.

Gary Nyland was happy to report that fly tying meetings would resume.  He has secured the Westside Community Center in New Braunfels for the meetings.  He has two dates reserved, November 3rd and December 1st, from 6 to 8 pm.  The center has a large room, good lighting and an internet connection so youtube can be used as an additional training tool.  He will put out a follow-up email next week.

Ron DeMeyer reported that the fish feeding program was coming to an end at the end of October.

Ron and Brien have explored another option for fishing the Blanco River.  It is a private landowner, also Brien’s friend, who will allow us access to the river.  Ron will put out an email soon with a date for the outing.

Morgan Ferry is going to circulate a survey to the members concerning the future direction of our club.  Morgan would like us to have a greater social media presence with additional content to advertise our club and make it more attractive to more people.

Dan asked the club members to participate in the Holdover Tournament and that members should sign up at Action Angler.  Jerry Horton reviewed the prizes donated by Sattler merchants.

The club voted to support GRTU Youth Trout Camp again with gift bags.  Ron will request flies from the members and source the accessories to be included in the bags.

Kevin Hutchinson was our guest speaker.  Kevin gave a great overview of fishing the South Llano, Llano, San Marcos and Colorado Rivers.  Kevin also volunteered to give a free casting seminar to our members in the near future.

Dan adjourned the meeting at 8:50 pm.

NBFF Meeting Oct 26th

The NBFF will meet at the New Braunfels Public Library on Wednesday, October 26th at 7:00 pm.
Our speaker for the evening is Kevin Hutchinson, owner of Hill Country Fly Fishers.  Kevin is also the author of books and videos on fly fishing along with tying signature flies.  The subject of his presentation is an “Overview of the Local Waters”.
Also remember to sign up for the Holdover Tournament scheduled for November 5th.  Contact Chris Jackson at Action Angler to sign up. Support your club as this is our only fundraiser.  The local merchants have been generous with prize donations and the local fly shops are always supportive.  Come have a fun day with your club and win a great prize.  More details at the meeting.
